Ovously Max and this guy’s views on the world are two different things. Joanna could careless either way. All she knows is she’s tied up and pissed off.

In this page I mostly wanted to clue in that there is more going on in this world then Jo and Max are aware of. I just hope I don’t get too vague for my readers. I know when I try to explain things to people verbally I tend to ramble and just confuse the heck out of them.

Think my favorite panel it the last one. It was just so fun drawing Jo’s face like that. Max’s eyes look alittle crossed though.

Anime Iowa went awesomely. Did a lot better money wise than I thought I would and I passed out a ton of cards so the word is slowly getting out there. I also found out having to sit at a table all day is a great way to get pictures. Normally I’m not that great of a picture taker but I got a lot more of people’s costumes that I normally would miss. Only down side was if they had any props to go with them I couldn’t see them cause they weren’t aloud in the dealers’ room. This year I’m hoping to make it to at least 4 or 5 different Conventions. I’m going to Convergence and Anime Iowa again for sure but the other three I’m hoping to find more in the middle of the year rather than in summer so I can space them out more. I’ve got my eye on two different ones, one in September and one in November but either would have to depend on how much money I can scrounge up before then.

I couldn’t resist with the title. That last panel Jo looks like she’s chewing on Max’s shoulder and I’ve been looking at a lot of lol cats lately. Should have seen her face before I got his shoulder in there. Also funny but in a different way…

This month has been really busy for me. Been trying to get an update really as well as work on commissions. Added to that I’m also trying to get stuff ready for two cons I’m going to next month. First I have Convergence In Bloomington, Minnesota which I don’t really have a table for (mostly cause they don’t really have much of an artist alley so we will have to see when I get there) but I will be seeing if I can sell some work in the art show. The other is Anime Iowa in Iowa City, which I’m pretty sure I have a table for (If you happen to be there too come down and say hi.) But anyway I’ve been trying to get stuff up and ready so I actually have stuff to sell, and it’s when you have a time limit that the tech gods like to mess with you the most. It this case the printer decided it no longer wanted to work for me. I was almost done printing off my comic (only did a small run cause it’s my first time selling and if I didn’t end up sell much I didn’t want to drain too much out of pocket.) When the print decided it could no longer recognize it’s own ink, and we have 3 new whole sets of the stuff. I ended up having to go to my grandma’s and using her printer to finish the job. Crisis averted but still maybe next time it might be a good idea to save up and get it done at a print shop rather than try to do it on my own.

Over all I’m happy with this page. I especially love the bottom three panels. Max has such a strong looking profile in those three. The only panel I have a problem with is the second one at the top. But I can’t really say too much its cause I did something wrong because I kind of did that on propose. Normally with that kind of shot I would have just showed the back of their heads (mostly so your focus would be more on the soldier. But Story wise I thought it was important at this sean that you see the expressions on their faces, so I tried to so a 1/3 view instead. Unforchanly I think in doing that their faces kind of look squished and weird looking. (Max looks like he’s sporting a Mohawk). On a side note while I was drawing this I did notice something I did wrong. Not on this page but on the other page before it. In the panel I showed Jo trying to cut the ropes with her claw, I asedently got her hands on wrong. Didn’t realize it until I had started drawing this one.

Think that’s it for now. Got myself alittle bit of the flu so I’m going to get some Nyquil and head back to bed

Joanna and Max prove they’re kind of new at this.

Yay, first comic of the New Year… Blarg it’s almost two months over due. *Sigh* Thanks to all my readers for being patient with me. At least people can’t start listing me as dead yet.

Been a very busy the last couple months, not just with other things in real life, but with New Dawn as well. I guess the real big thing I’ve got going on if you didn’t already know was New Dawn made it into the local newspaper last week. (It’s up on the Facebook page in case you’d like to check it out.) Also there’s a new webcomic in the link page, Impure Blood so go check that out.

As for the comic itself I think the only panel I really have a problem with is that last panel, the solider looks a little wonky. But other than that Jo and Max turned out fine. Now I need to start working on more of the story.

Pretty straightforward with this page I think. No real glaring flaws at least. I did have to laugh a bit at that 3^rd panel. Jo just looks so intense. The second panel at the bottom looks weird to me for some reason I don’t know why. I mean proportion wise they both look right but for some reason Jo and Max just don’t look like Jo and Max. It looks like I drew their stunt doubles. One thing though it is this page seems to have come together a lot faster for me. There might me hope for me yet.

This month has been a really busy month for me. Awhile back I did a commission of a farm boy who got turned into horse by a fairy. I’ve posted it on both my furaffinaty and deviant art page and it both places it has been one of my most popular pics. Anyway a few weeks ago someone sent me a note saying I should enter it in this sight that is for solely transformation pics. I was kind of excited cause it’s one of those sites where someone has to see whether you good enough to be one of their artist first before you can join. That may not sound that good to most people but for me it felt like a way of proving to myself that I do finally have what it takes. I got in and got my pic posted. Next day I went in to check and see how it was doing and I already had over 100 favs on it. 100 favs! I don’t even have that much on some of the fan art I do (deviant art people usually are more about fan art then original stuff. Your lucky if your original stuff gets looked at somedays.) And then the floods of watches on my other sites came and even a note from one of them. Someone in Germany wants to commission 13 pics from me starting after the New Year. Finally it seems people are starting to egknogle me as an artist if not a storyteller.

‘Course excitement does come with it’s own level of stress. I was worried that with a commission that big I might have to put off New Dawn for awhile just to get it finished. However I talked to the guy and it seems it would work in both our favors if I just did two pics a month so hopefully that will still give me enough time to still get in a new page on time. Plus this might actually be good for helping me get faster.

Christmas was also pretty good to me. I got 4 Omaha the cat dancer books from my best friends Krista and Dee, and snow. Lots and Lots of snow. Any of my Iowa readers will know we got at least 21 inches Christmas morn. You can barley see my car over the snowdrift.

This I would have to say is one of those pages that ended up completely different then how I had first envisioned it but I can’t say I’m disappointed in it either. The main thing I’m talking about is the background. Usually I try to look up pictures so I can create something that sort of looks like it’s plausible. This time around my printer was down, (and before you ask I don’t like looking at a computer screen while I’m drawing, it hunches my back and hurts my eyes, so I usually print out what I’m working with and sit somewhere more comfortable, preferably somewhere in the lazy-boy closer to the TV.) So since I couldn’t print something off I decided to try and come up with something out of my imagination. It still looks a little odd to me but not as bad as some of the other backgrounds I’ve come up with. Though I still can’t draw water worth much.

I have a pink ranger, the parody is now complete X3.Actully I wasn’t really planing on it all I know is I have six soldiers and so far I’ve only shown you close up on four of them. I knew I had to start bringing the others forward or people were going to start thinking there were only the four. (Six just seems like a healthier number to me.) Anyway as I was drawing this new one he just keep getting more and more girly on me so I just decided “forget it, you’re a girl now.” I will say though I love her hair. Seriously I usually have a terrible time rendering hair but her’s came together perfectly

Then we get to Joanna, whose eyes are cross-eyed. They were fine when I was working on it in large scale but as soon as shrunk it down to fit the page they crossed on me. I don’t know maybe she’s in shock from Max being all serious. Oh Well.

Joanna returns to the waking world groggy and disoriented.

I swear there’s always something. Either I’ll be working on a page and PhotoShop will poop out on me or I’ll get everything done and my web connections decide it’s their day off. The computer gods are against me. Forget the computer gods, I shall continue work on my comic until I have nothing left to work on. *shakes fist*

You know I just realized I should probably be talking about the comic rather then threating imaginary deities.

The major gripe I have are with their legs, Joanna’s mostly. Perspective once again rears it’s ugly head and bites me on the butt. Jo’s one leg look like I chopped off her lower leg and just nailed her foot back on. (Speaking of her feet, I’m not even sure if that is her foot.) The other one looks way too long and bent weird. Max seems to have the same problem but it’s not as glaring as Jo’s.

Another minor problem I have is I tried to make it look like moss was growing on the wall in some places using only color. I think next time I’d be better off just drawing the moss in first.

Other then those two things I’m actually pretty happy with this page. Jo and Max turned out pretty good for the most part and I especially like the three-panel sequence at the bottom. Thou I think the last seen might be a little too fast and violent then I intended.

As far as it being kind of a boring page, I realize that but I also felt I needed to put it in, if nothing else to bring some closer to the necklace doing something though at this point we’re still not sure if it actually does anything besides glow. (Well I know but I’m not going to tell you that would be cheating.)

Anyway got every thing out of the way now so I can start getting back on track again and hopefully I might even have a Halloween pic for you this month too.

As far as the page itself goes, like I said, I’m really happy with how Jo turned out and I think I may have actually got the perspective right. The soldiers look stiff especially that yellow one I wasn’t quite sure what to do with him. Max doesn’t look right either.

Well not really. One of the things I always keep in mind when I’m working on New Dawn is I never wanted my characters to suddenly be super powered martial artists, at least not at the start. I wanted them to make mistakes and latter grow into the adults they’re going to be. I figured teenage girl against 6 armed and probably trained soldiers, yea not much of a contest; even with the little extra help she might get from being a cat.

Not sure how happy I am with the flow of this page. The pics look fine all by themselves but they’re kind of choppy as a whole. My big problem is the two panels as the top. When I was comparing my layout to my scrip I realized I neglected to draw out the right amount of panel to illustrate the action. So I tried to squish it all in the two panels. It really could of benefited from an in-between panel. The other problem panel is the first one on the bottom. I’m worried it might me too cluderd and maybe too small. I showed this page to my mom and she couldn’t figure out why they had stopped beating on Jo and why she was falling uncounsuos. I had to point out to her that she was punched below the rib cage.
